Participate in green events on campus! RecycleMania, the national recycling competition among universities, brings many exciting eco-friendly events to UH. In the next two weeks, Green UH and CLASP will host recycling drop-offs for the campus wide competition, yoga in the Campus Community Garden, Residential Raids at Moody Towers and Cambridge Oaks, and the RecycleMania Olympics!
Green UH organizes weekly recycling drop-offsfrom 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays in front of the UC to weigh and record competing teams’ recyclable materials. These materials, along with all recycling collected regularly on-campus, are used to calculate our total weight reported for RecycleMania. UH encourages groups of four or more (student or employee teams) to form a team and compete in the campus- wide recycling contest for a chance to win $150 in UH Catering Services credit!
Relaxation Garden Yoga
Community Learning Agricultural and Sustainability Program (CLASP) will provide well-deserved relaxation, through the practice of yoga, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Fridays at the Campus Community Garden , near the intersection of Wheeler and Cullen. Forget the stresses of your week while you absorb sunlight, feel the cool breeze on your skin, and breathe in the enticing smells of the garden. Sarah Clouse, CLASP student staff member , will lead the yoga sessions in-between the vegetable beds of the garden. However, we encourage others to lead the practice or offer suggestions since CLASP promotes community involvement. All you need to bring is a towel or mat for yourself and a water bottle (suggested—not required). This event is free!
Green UH will be raiding residential buildings on campus from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cambridge Oaks and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 8 at Moody Towers to promote the importance of recycling and collect recyclable materials from student residence halls . The raid at Moody Towers will be Mardi Gras themed, so wear your beads and masks, and bring an appetite because RHA is providing food! Have your recycling ready!
Join Green UH for fun and games at the RecycleMania Olympics from 11 a.m. to
2 p.m. March 9 at Butler Plaza—in front of the library. Games such as horse shoe, tic-tac-toe toss, ring toss, tugof war and skee-ball will be set up for students, faculty and staff to show off their skills. These games are made completely from recycled materials and if you rack up enough points you can win prizes! The elite “athletes” will also receive a medal! Join us to see how fun recycling can be!
